Hello

My name is Justus

I love working with metal. It is the most versatile material in the world. I also love teaching. I teach mobile metalworking classes in the Austin area, with a workshop on wheels, so that metalworking classes can be available to all.

what i’ve done

With a degree of sculptural forging from Austin Community College and years of experience as a professional in this field, I’ve made everything from mailboxes to staircases. In 2019, I finished my Tiny Forge, made out of a horse trailer, as a personal studio. This year, 2024, I will be starting classes for kids and adults so they can learn to make wonderful things too.

About Me

MY NAME IS justus cogdell

I grew up in Austin. At a young age, I learned woodworking and joinery skills from my grandfather, Papa John, in his shop. His family is from Cleburne, and his grandfather was a blacksmith. Papa John requested the anvil, forge and tools when his grandfather passed away, but they never came his way. So now I’ve built a Cogdell forge seeking to teach skills like the one’s he taught me.

While in school, I built a workshop. I think it is worth sharing with you, along with my projects and products. It all started as a tiny house project, but halfway through I realized I valued having a workshop over having a house. The whole tiny house trend is pretty fun, so why not apply it to a workshop? Yes, I built a forge on wheels. Thus the Tiny Forge was born. It has since transformed, but the name has stuck.
